Steel Cup 2025

Our Edge Hill team made the long and painful drive on a cold February morning to Sheffield for our second indoor competition – Steel Cup. Boasting a smaller but by no means weaker team, which will become apparent later on.

Stealing the show for the Edge Hill team were the field athletes. These especially came in the long and triple jumps where we witnessed some incredible jumps. Notable from Steph Jones jumping 5.97m to claim 1st overall and set a new Steel Cup meeting record along with Sophie Warden breaking her 10 year old PB twice in the triple jump to finish a solid 6th overall. Other notable performances in the Long Jump came from Allyssa Dixon (PB). More PBs were set by Toby Nicholson in the Shot Putt and another consistent performance by Georgia Barrett came in the high jump.

Moving to the track saw excellent performances in the 60m from Adam Oliver, Thomas Henshaw, Amelia Large and Lucy Fyffe, with Lucy setting a new PB of 8.16s! Sticking with the sprints, performances from Thomas Henshaw and Dan Evans in the 200m along with Bryn Squires in the 400m capped off an excellent day of sprinting for the team. However, the standout performances from the track came from Lucci Baker in the 800m (a new PB and a 7th place overall), Se Loughlin (PB in the mile and 8th overall and a 5th place overall finish in the 3k!) and Heidi Wild setting a new PB in both the 3k and the mile. More excellent performances in the relays in both the male and female 4x200m and a super determined showing in the mixed 4x400m rounded off a long and successful day in Sheffield.

The team set an astounding total of 7 new club records, which with just a week until BUCS Indoors shows just what sort of form our athletes are in!

The Steel Cup provided a great opportunity for our athletes to really show off their capabilities and we are grateful to the organisers for hosting such a fantastic event!

Manchester Cup 2025

Our first competitive competition kicked off on the 20th November with the team making the short journey over to Sport City in Manchester, for the Manchester Cup. The University of Manchester were excellent hosts in providing a smooth day which was packed full of PBs and SBs.

Bringing a healthy squad of 19 athletes, our Edge Hill team kicked off the day on the track with the 60m. All athletes produced some excellent performances with each athlete setting a new PB! (Quinton Mahoney, Thomas Henshaw, Olivia Fowler, Carla Teece). A special mention to Olivia Fowler for setting the fastest time overall in the women’s 60m with a speedy time of 7.60s! The speed from the sprinters continued in the 200m and 400m with Steph Jones, Amelia Large and Thomas Henshaw tearing up the track.

Moving to the longer events, our 800m crew of Louie Clark, Lucci Baker and Hannah Swales produced some fine efforts. Two PBs were also set by Josh Minihan & Heidi Wild in the 1500m!

Swiftly moving to the field, our team boasted a strong squad with Shot Putt being the most represented with 5 athletes from Edge Hill. Notable performances from Holly Benson (finishing 2nd overall), Alex Slater (5th overall) and Paul Greenway (new PB) capped some excellent performances in the shot putt. Jumping into the sand were Basit Kareem (new PB), Toby Nicholson (new PB), Amelia Large, Alyssia Dixon and Sophie Warden (SB) who all put in valiant efforts and where again, the PBs were tumbling. Capping off an excellent field performance were Georgia Barrett and Izzy Morgan (joint 4th overall) who were flying over the high jump bar!

With all these notable performances, and finishing 4th overall at Manchester cup, its clear that Edge Hill in 2024/2025 are a team that are still on the rise and raising eyebrows amongst other universities!
