The second inter-university event of the indoor season was undertaken on Wednesday the 7th of February. The team consisting of 26 athletes made the journey to Sheffield to complete at the English Institute of Sport. This event saw seven club indoor records fall, three by our women and four by the men, and multiple PBs. The entire team was on top form and we could write a book about all their amazing exploits but we don't have the room! So here are the headlines!

Olivia Fowler - 60m record holder

Kicking off the day of record breaking day men's 60m hurdles was up first where David Naylor flew over the hurdles to finish in a time of 8.57s and looked in fantastic shape for the upcoming British Indoor Championships. Sophie Warden threw well in the shot putt, throwing a PB of 8.33m. Following these efforts Lucci Baker improved on her own 800m record in a time of 2:20.66, still a little way off her PB so watch this space! Next up on track was the women's 60m where Olivia Fowler not only set a new PB and was the fastest woman of the day, but smashed the club record which had stood for 10 years and brought it down to 7.80s. After this excitement there was a lull in record breaking until Brandon Quinton took to the track to break his 3000m record and take second place in a time of 8:39.56. This was shortly followed by Ryan Mostyn improving his 200m record as well! Isobel Morgan also had a fantastic day, jumping a 2cm PB in the women's high jump. The last women's record to be broken was the long jump where Stephanie Jones took to the runway to jump 5.80m, also looking in fantastic form as she prepares for the British Indoor Championships. The final track event of the day saw the last record to be broken by over 3 seconds, the mens 4x200m record was smashed by David Naylor, Ben Whittaker, Daniel Evans and Ryan Mostyn in a time of 1.33.18.  The women's 4x200m consisting of Olivia Fowler, Amelia Large, Rebecca Weekes, and Alice Woodhouse convincingly won their heat by over 75m and finished 4th overall. Special mention should also be made to Alex Slater who jumped 1.45m in the mens high jump after several years away from the event, picking up valuable points for the team.

Back Row (L to R): D Evans, D Naylor, B Whittaker, R Mostyn.

Front Row (L to R): R Weekes, A Woodhouse, O Fowler, A Large.

Overall the team finished an impressive 6th against some formidable and well established track and field universities. We are exceptionally proud of all of those who competed and if this is any indication for how the BUCS National Indoor Championships will unfold we will be in for a record breaking event. Thank you Alex Slater, Basit Kareem and Lucy Fyffe who helped the officials during this event alongside competing, and Sophie for taking wonderful photos of the team. See you all at BUCS!
