June 2023: County Championships

In the month of June, our athletes took on the challenge of the County Championships, happening all across the country, representing their home clubs with heart and soul. With unyielding determination, they left no room for doubt, showcasing their incredible skills and unwavering dedication. From one end of the country to the other, our athletes gave it their all, competing against tough rivals and leaving an indelible mark on the national stage. The County Championships were a true testament to their hard work and passion, paving the way for even greater achievements yet to come.

The Lancashire County Championships saw the biggest Edge Hill cohort with five athletes taking to the track in Blackburn. Leading the medal charge was Megan Lockwood who took home an impressive three bronze medals and a silver in the Javelin, Discus, Shot Put and Hammer respectively. Not to be out done Tazmin Fayle also racked up an impressive gold in the Hammer and silver in the Discus with two personal best performances. Also in the field events Sophie Warden continued her triumphant return from injury with a seasons best and a silver medal in the Long Jump. Dan Evans and Callum Jefferies were the only male representatives at the champs from the team and they put on quite a show! Dan ran an impressive 100m to take the bronze and placed 5th in the final of the 200m into a very strong headwind. Callum ran a fantastic 800m, leading the race for the first lap and a half but unfortunately was out kicked in the final stretch and crossed the line a respectable 4th.

Elsewhere at the North East Country Championships Alice Woodhouse took a decided victory in the 200m and at the Greater Manchester County Championships Rebecca Weekes took gold in the 400m Hurdles - both continuing their impressive starts to the season. Our very own daffodil Ellie Loweth took on the West Wales Regional Championships at Carmarthen and snatched a bronze in the 100m and a very close 4th in the 200m.  Our resident multi-eventer, Olivia Fowler, kept herself busy as ever taking a a gold, two silvers, and a bronze in the 100m, 200m, Javelin and Shot Put respectively. And as if that wasn't enough she also competed in the Long Jump and 400m Hurdles, placing 4th in both events.

For many athletes this is just the start of the season and we know there are going to be many more amazing performances to come! Well done to everyone who competed over the championships and good luck for the rest of the season
